Industrial Commercial Project in River Rouge, MI

Urban’s General Contracting was selected to complete interior renovation work at Dunn STEAM Academy, focusing on demolition, ceiling replacement, and the careful removal and reinstallation of existing metal cabinetry. The project required detailed coordination to ensure the work was completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to the school environment.

The first phase of the project involved the demolition of the existing ceiling systems in designated areas throughout the school. Urban’s crew carefully removed the old ceiling tiles, grid systems, and any damaged or outdated materials. Special attention was given to maintaining a clean and safe work environment, including dust control, debris removal, and proper disposal of demolition materials in accordance with safety and environmental regulations. All work areas were secured and clearly marked to ensure the safety of staff and students during the renovation process.

Following the demolition phase, Urban’s installed new acoustical ceiling systems. This included the installation of a new suspended ceiling grid and new acoustical ceiling tiles designed to improve sound control, lighting reflection, and overall classroom acoustics. The new ceiling system not only enhances the appearance of the classrooms and hallways but also contributes to a better learning environment by reducing noise levels and improving sound quality within the space. All ceiling installations were completed to meet manufacturer specifications and industry standards to ensure durability and long-term performance.

In addition to the ceiling work, Urban’s was responsible for the removal and reinstallation of existing metal cabinets. Each cabinet was carefully detached, labeled, and stored to prevent damage during the construction process. After the new ceiling installation was completed, the cabinets were reinstalled in their original locations, ensuring they were properly secured, level, and fully functional. This process allowed the school to retain existing storage while still completing the necessary renovations.
